The Executive MBA

The Executive MBA (EMBA) at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) is one of the oldest and most popular postgraduate general management degree programmes in the German-speaking world. The aims of the programme are to provide participants with in-depth management expertise, support their personal development and create networking opportunities for the next generation of executives. On the EMBA, you will be thoroughly prepared for a management position in Switzerland, Germany or Austria – in any industry or market environment.

Programme Structure

EMBA 56 – Start Spring 2019

The EMBA HSG is designed with work, family and leisure time all in mind. During the 18-month programme, participants complete 12 core courses and four elective courses in modules lasting between one and two weeks. The breaks of several weeks between modules, and the weekends, allow participants time to complete self-study and most importantly fulfil their family and professional commitments. As well as 80 days of contact time at the Executive Campus in St.Gallen including a study trip, participants also complete an additional 10 days of preparation and follow-up work.

The programme’s key general management topics are covered in 12 core courses in which participants acquire broad-based knowledge in areas such as finance, strategy, marketing or leadership. To cater for individual areas of interest and needs, participants also select four of the 11 elective courses on offer. The Digital Classroom

All participants are equipped with an iPad Pro, giving them access to an app which functions as the programme’s central hub. It provides simple and quick access to all course documents and handouts, presentations, timetables and examination results. The app is also used for elective course registration and administration, as well as contact with programme administration and teaching staff.

Practical Thesis Work

The programme’s strong practical focus is reflected in the thesis element of the degree which requires you to analyse a professional challenge you are currently facing, or develop a business plan for your own company. This allows you to put what you have learned straight into practice and benefits both you and your employer. You also have the opportunity to work on a thesis as part of a team – enabling you to profit directly from the knowledge and experience of your peers.
