Review of the EMBA HSG Alumni training event on the topic of ‘Ruptures’

This year's EMBA HSG Alumni training event took place under the exciting theme of ‘Ruptures’. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) was followed by inspiring presentations and workshops that illuminated the topic from different perspectives.

The General Assembly brought important personnel decisions. Stefan Stübli was unanimously elected as the new President of EMBA HSG Alumni. In addition, Céline Solenthaler was unanimously elected as a new member of the Board. Dr Ursina Brack, who will continue to act as the representative of the IEMBA Alumni, was re-elected as scheduled.

Daniela Decurtins and Martin Hirni, who are stepping down from the Board, were bid farewell. Daniela Decurtins was an honorary member of the Board for over twelve years, most recently as Co-President together with Stefan Stübi for four years. Her commitment, in particular her valuable network, which she actively used for EMBA HSG Alumni events, as well as her role as Chair of the NZZ Prize jury, deserve just as much thanks and recognition as Martin Hirni’s great commitment.

Inspiring lectures and workshops on the topic of ‘Ruptures’

The AGM was followed by a high-calibre programme with exciting and entertaining presentations on the topic of ‘Ruptures’ from various perspectives:

  • Ancillo Canepa (President of FC Zurich): In conversation with Daniela Decurtins, Ancillo Canepa described his remarkable professional transformation from auditor to president of a renowned football club. The talk was not only exciting and informative, but also very entertaining and – as is often the case in football – full of emotion.
  • Prof Müller-Stewens (HSG): In his lecture on the strategic management of moments of rupture in organisations, Prof. Müller-Stewens conveyed valuable theoretical and practical approaches. With numerous practical examples and a humorous presentation, his contribution offered many suggestions for the participants’ everyday work.
  • Cornel Villinger (para-athlete): In a moving workshop, Cornel Villinger shared his personal experiences with strokes of fate and discussed his philosophy of life ‘Still on the Move’. His story was not only inspiring, but also impressively demonstrated how one can deal with unexpected turns of events and recognise them as opportunities.
  • Samuel Berger (Witena Executive Search): As a headhunter, Samuel Berger provided exciting insights from his professional perspective on disruptions in professional life. The ‘Fish Bubble Experiment’ in particular encouraged reflection on career leaps, new beginnings and professional adaptability.

This year’s EMBA HSG Alumni Continuing Education Event not only offered the opportunity to exchange views on important developments within the alumni network but also provided valuable food for thought on coping with moments of rupture in professional and private life. This resulted in many exciting conversations and once again a valuable exchange within the EMBA HSG community.
